Beltaine Song: The Realm of Mystery

It's time for another song! This one is focused on the Sidhe-folk, literally the people of the mounds. What they are is confusing at best to us humans, but they're a clearly important group of beings in Irish lore and thus worthy of honoring with song in this a season where they are traditionally given extra attention. With this, I also tried to capture the other-worldliness of the experience of trying to get into contact with them, as in most of my own experiences as well as the lore it feels like time out of time, with everything not quite as you expect.

Musically, this is somewhat a companion piece to what I wrote for Samhain 6 months ago which aimed to use slow unsteady speeds and strange sounds to take the listener away from everyday experience. However, while that song aimed for a feeling of desolation, this aimed more for constant activity and motion you can't really make out and are trying to pick out what you're listening for from a lot of distractions. The combination of harp motion out of time, some rapid finger movements on the squeezebox, and the extended chords with close note combinations create a sort of constant shimmering, even while the base line and melody are pretty standard E minor ideas.

All works are copyright by yours truly, but may be distributed under Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share-Alike 4.0. That means, in short, you can use them yourself and your grove, and play the song to your heart's content both in private and in public, but must give credit where credit is due, and if you're planning on selling something involving this song we need to talk about that first.
