Imbolg Song: The Time of the Plague

In the season of Imbolg, it is cold, it is snowy, but there's also clear signs that spring will be coming soon. There is more sunlight each day, which makes for signs of hope. But the snow and cold also keep you indoors, making this a good time for celebrating hearth and home. Which, conveniently, the Irish goddess Brighid absolutely is a present part of, so this is designated, at least in our local calendar, her birthday, a fitting time of in-gathering and preparation for the coming year.

Also, when looking at the complex of Brighid, the themes of home, health, and hearth all come strongly through. Which in my mind at least meant she didn't get as much credit as she should have for helping us through the disease that struck down so many over the last two years. With that in mind, I decided to write something appropriate for her, and also pick up her instrument, the harp, to accompany my voice.

Musically, this is pretty standard E minor waltz time. Harps are diatonic instruments, which means they can only be tuned to one key at a time. With some creativity, I might be able to figure out a way to get notes in another key, but I can't imagine that would be an easy technique to do a lot. I will also be the first to admit that my harp does not do a great job of getting in tune or remaining in tune once it's there, but it does work to get the harmonies across.

That means, in short, you can use them yourself and your grove, and play the song to your heart's content both in private and in public, but must give credit where credit is due, and if you're planning on selling something involving this song we need to talk about that first.
