Midsummer Song: Sun in Summer

Midsummer is upon us, and that means that the crops are planted and growing, the sun is high, and I will be heading to my grove to celebrate in a Norse-focused ritual. Regardless of planned celebration, I take the season as the right time to honor the sun in all its glory as it has its greatest effect on our lives during this time.

Musically, this is in the style of some Scandanavian folk dance music I was listening to for inspiration. This dance, the hambo, is a relatively recent invention of Swedish folk music, dating back only to the late 1800's, but it is a fun and relatively easy dance to do and is still pretty popular in folk dancing circles both in Sweden and internationally (an example). The dance lends itself to a rather unusual emphasis on the first and second beat of a 3-beat measure, because the first portion is step-kick-wait step-kick-wait, so 1-2-3 rather than 1-2-3 that's more common for waltzes and the like. The harmonies are intentionally kept to the very simple 3 major chords.

All works are copyright by yours truly, but may be distributed under Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share-Alike 4.0. That means, in short, you can use them yourself and your grove, and play the song to your heart's content both in private and in public, but must give credit where credit is due, and if you're planning on selling something involving this song we need to talk about that first.
