Spring Equinox Song: We Walk Upon Her Body

This spring equinox, both I and the group I'm a part of have decided to focus on the wonderous Earth Mother in all her glory. Whatever you call her, this time of year is always a great time to think about her amazing beauty, especially as the plants start to wake up, and water, soil, and sun make their magic happen in the form of early spring flowers and seed germinating as we get ready for planting.

Musically, this song just wanted to go in a bit of an unusual direction for me, namely Appalachian old-timey or even bluegrass. This might have had something to do with playing some Celtic music that uses this scale a couple days before writing it, but in any event, that's what came out. For you fancy music theory types out there, you'll notice the flat 7 in the scale, making this technically A mixolydian, which is pretty typical for this style, but more importantly that still allows for a couple of chords that are "out of key" like E7 and C, both of which include notes from elsewhere. But that kind of harmonic ambiguity is the kind of fun that makes this music a bit more interesting than just pounding out an A chord.

That means, in short, you can use them yourself and your grove, and play the song to your heart's content both in private and in public, but must give credit where credit is due, and if you're planning on selling something involving this song we need to talk about that first.
