Yule Song: The Longest Night

It's the season of Yuletide once again, a time of darkness and dreary weather, but also a time when we look to the sun for hope that she'll survive another year's chase around the fire and thus signal that we'll also survive. Which, so far we have, but with pandemics striking people down it's good to remember how lucky we are.

Musically, this one is very much a lively polka, with lots of words to get out quickly. The secret to pulling this off, learned from singing patter baritone Gilbert & Sullivan back in the day, is to sing towards the front of your mouth, and don't open up too too much so you can enunciate the consonants at least. Of course, you can also just slow down the song, but we don't have time for sensible solutions! Guitar players would probably want to capo up 1 fret so you can play E-A-B-c#m-f#m rather than the F-Bb-C-Dm-Gm written on the page.

All works are copyright by yours truly, but may be distributed under Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share-Alike 4.0. That means, in short, you can use them yourself and your grove, and play the song to your heart's content both in private and in public, but must give credit where credit is due, and if you're planning on selling something involving this song we need to talk about that first.
