Imbolg Song: Center Yourself at the Hearth

We're now in the time that passes for winter in this time of warming climate, so it seems appropriate to focus on what can be experienced huddled indoors. It can get cold and snowy, but there's also clear signs that spring will be coming soon. There is more sunlight each day, which is a symbol of hope for the future. And there is also the possibility of a flame that marks the mental center of your home, marking it as inhabited by the only creature on Earth that can control fire. It is a time of preparation, of readying yourself for the work that will be coming sooner than you think.

One hearth deity that gets particular attention at this time from my religious community is the Irish and possibly more pan-Celtic figure of Brighid. Her symbols include the cup of healing brew, the harp of musical inspiration, and the hammer of both practical and artistic forging. While I don't specifically name her in this song, you can definitely see the references to those in the lyrics.

Musically, this is a very straightforward slow air in E minor. Take your time, don't rush through it, and a steady beat is less important than musical expression.

That means, in short, you can use them yourself and your grove, and play the song to your heart's content both in private and in public, but must give credit where credit is due, and if you're planning on selling something involving this song we need to talk about that first.
